"Colors of Fall" Poems
written by Mrs. Dingman's 5th Grade
November 2016
Figurative language creates clear and compelling images. We chose our favorite color word associations for the season of fall for this writing project and used rough draft organizers to help us begin to think about things we associated with those colors, using our 5 senses.

We worked our way through the writing process, revising to make our writing clearer or more interesting, and illustrating our final edited copies. We reviewed nouns and adjectives, discussed phrases, and identified similes in our poems.

We had a brief introduction to research skills as well as we searched a wikipedia.org article for clearer and more interesting color word choices, choosing a Crayola crayon box favorite.

We made excellent use of the technology available to us in the classroom. Final copies were prepared using Microsoft’s Word. We practiced using the Spell Check Tool, experimented with font color for the text of our poems, and were introduced to the Bold Tool. We continue to build confidence and independent comfort using our classroom computers.
