Wonderful, Winter Acrostic Poems
Written By: Mrs. Dingman's 5th Grade
December 2004
We created word lists of our favorite winter associations and chose our favorite winter words. We used our favorite winter words to create acrostic poems. Many of us accepted Mrs. Dingman's alliteration challenge and tried to include lines in our poetry that had most words in the line beginning with the same sound or letter. Enjoy our expanding vocabularies and creativity!

My Winter Poem
by Eric

Santa's sleigh shimmered like silver
Nobody ever likes nasty blizzards
Oaks, Evergreens, and Maples are winter trees
With white, wet, weary socks, Wimpo walked through the white snow
Bees go bye-bye into their beehive, banished away from Winter
Almost everyone likes snow
Lucy left leaves low in the snow
Left-handed people make good snowballs
Snowballs smash sorry, innocent cars

Winter Snow
by Nicholas

Snowmen still sound like fun
Never knit nine slippers on a snowy night
One of our tubes blew away in the wind
Winter will wipe you off your feet

Snowflake
by Caitlin H.

Sledding in snow is super
No one is swimming during the winter
Oh goodie, hot chocolate
We're walking in a winter wonderland
Falling in snow is great this time of year
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Always going to Grandma and Pop-Pop's house for Christmas
Knowing that Christmas is really about Jesus' birthday
Everyone is sledding everywhere

Winter
by Gabby

Santa sleds on the soft snowy step slippery slop
Ned nibbled on the nasty cookies his Dad Neil made
Oddie opened the outside door to see the snow
Whitney wiped at the snow with her wipe
Floating flakes fell on Felicity's fingers
Lily lied in Leonard's lower part of the snow
Aunt Addie added apples to the Christmas party basket
Kiki kicked the kickball in the snow
Ester could not open the easy egg box

Winter Weather
by Kendall

Cold weather comes in the winter
Happy bells ring in the wind
Reading Christmas stories
Igloos made of snow
Sleigh rides up the mountain
The big Christmas tree is decorated
Mountains are filled with snow
wreath is hung on the door
Snowballs are in the air

Christmas Time
by Marygrace

Swirling snowflakes shower snow covered 'scapes
Nights near Saint Nick's visit
Outside, ornaments open onlookers' eyes
Winter wonder worlds waken children's wonders and wishes
Mistletoe makes a marvelous decoration
Angels are all around
Nobody knows nights without noel notes

What Terios' Name Means to Me
by Star

The tinsel on my terrific tree
Embracing Christmas joy among friends is his goal
Ready to race down the snowy mountains and win
Is interested in Ipods at the "In" store on the Internet
Overjoyed for the holiday display of lights from my house
Snow is surprising to him because sure enough he lives in LA

What Happens During Winter
by Cassandra

Snow is so slippery and slushy
Not a sound at night so St. Nicholas will arrive
Only the families in sight are huddled together by a warming fire
Wreaths on every house you see
Angels all around and anywhere you are
Nothing is silent with all the commotion
Gifts go to all people in sight
Everybody's inside eating a meal from the hot oven
Letters are given from a family as a greeting of Christmas
Sledding on snow so swift and silent

Hot Cocoa
by Jeremy

How do you spend your happy holiday?
Own a 4-wheel drive?
Take Timmy tubing
Cold outside wear lots of clothes
Open a new pack of gloves
Coke and Pepsi now holiday flavored
Off and on it snowed all day
A cup of hot cocoa scares the coldness away

Christmas
by Dan

Cocoa is good in the winter
Here is a jolly elf from the North Pole
Reindeer ring on the radio
I like incredible igloos
Sleds slide slick on the slippery ice
Two talking snowmen are terrific
Merry Mrs. Claus is cool
At midnight merry Santa comes
Santa is coming! Slide into bed and sleep

Winter Poem
by John

Christmas carols are the coolest kind of carols
Harry got a happy horsey for Christmas
Rudolph recruits red-nosed reindeer
If you're not nice you will be on the naughty list
Snow is fun to play with
Trees look good with colorful lights on them
Merry Christmas to people all around
snow day is cool because no school
Santa leaves presents under trees

Winter Wonderland
by Jacqui

Food and fires and friends it's great
Apple cider and apple pie is absolutely delicious
Making mom's famous molasses cookies
Ice hockey and ice skating it's incredibly fun
Listening to Christmas songs
Yummy yams are very good

Holiday Cautions
by Kati G.

Cold carrying cocoa cups cut through the cold
Honey holds hives together in winter
Rhinestone wrapping round a rose
Igloo ice ignites items ill-manneredly
Sudden signs signal snowfall
Trees tumble toward town
Mother Mahatmas made the middle part of the scenery
Actors accumulate annoying acts around the holidays
Signs show Santa swaying near soon
Tumbling trees topple town houses
Radios rampage about rare weather
Elves enter the election for elder statesman
Elections for elves end every year
